This movie is horrible

This movie had one good moment in that and thats the hit on the train. The rest of the movie was very cheesy along with the nicknames. Tony "The Tiger" Russo may be the lamest mafia nickname i've ever heard.

I agree. I just finished watching it. Pfeiffer was good in it like most movies she's in. But I think the satire was uninspired and unoriginal. Modine was terrible just like every other movie he's ever been except FMJ.

I am a big fan of Michelle Pfeiffer, but also as a characer actor of Dean Stockwell, who has been memorable in several roles including Paris Texas, To Live and Die in LA, and numerous roles over a long career going back to the sixties. Mercedes Rhuel is also quite good in this, as she was in The Fisher King. A small part for Alec Baldwin was also well played. Yes, Modine is not great here, but overall the film is far better than a nearly 6 rating. I give it an 8.

I saw someone complaining that the film is a mix of romance and comedy, but not as a romantic comedy. Huh? I have no problem with mixed genres as long as they work. This is not a perfect film, but it is well worth seeing.

Frankly, while I do enjoy the movie, in my personal opinion Johnny Dangerously has MttM beat. It's just a much better mob comedy flick for me. Sure, it's not set in the same era, but still. There's one scene in this movie that still makes me cringe every time though, and that's when Modine and co. is on the stake out waiting for Tony and start with that silly growling when he appears. For some reason that just rustles my jimmies.

This movie is one of the GREAT crime comedies, up there with Get Shorty and Prizzi’s Honor. Great casting. The TV series they tried spinning off from the movie was embarrassing, but that was really no surprise.

As I always say when it comes to the late great Jonathan Demme's work, even if his so-so films have a lot going for them.

I would put Married To The Mob above the likes of Swing Shift, Ricki and the Flash, Beloved and The Truth About Charlie, it's nowhere near his worse film. I think it's got flaws to it for sure, the whole third act isn't as good as the first two imo, What in the hell happened to Pfeiffer's character's son, he just disappears half way through the film, and I don't quite buy the Modine and Pfeiffer romance. It feels like a 80's film and hasn't aged too well. It does have some cheesy stuff in there.

But it's got some great things in it, Michelle Pfeiffer is fantastic in it, you can see why for a while she was a big star. I think while some go OTT in their performances she remains the heart and soul of the film. People forget she was a very good actress. Matthew Modine is fine, I think they could have casted better but he's nowhere awful.I think someone like a Jeff Daniels (who Demme worked with on the by far better Something Wild) would have been a better choice. Dean Stockwell and Mercedes Ruehl are acting up a storm and having fun with it.I think Ruehl almost steals the film. Nice little performances from Alec Baldwin and Oliver Platt. The soundtrack is fantastic and the train scene at the start is a great scene. Some of the comedy hits the mark and it's supposed to be a satire. It doesn't always work but it's a film i would recommend.

I probably give it 6.5 on IMDB. It's got a sweetness to it and Pfeiffer delivers one of her better performances. Not one of Demme's greatest films but not one his worse either.
