In your opinion is this a must own movie?

In your opinion, is this a movie you have to own or is this a movie that you would just watch on tv if it was on?

reply

I bought it, thinking it was a must own, but I don't watch it all that often.

Yes we have it and watch every summer along with Summer rental

reply

Actually, this is my opinion on the matter. Just got done watching both Summer Rental and The Great Outdoors. Great 80s summer family flicks! Definitely worth owning.

Absolutely

these 1980's movies with former saturday night live casts used to air on tv all the time when i was a kid, for some reason this still airs every now and then, looking at it again now its pretty rare on great jokes, but i was surprised though how critics give it just the most awful rating, the steak bit is really funny how candy hangs on grabbing on to aykroyd in pain having to finish to the last bite, by the way, i guess this happen to star two canadians, right. there are so many examples how mixing comedy with drama don't work, i guess this could be one of those.

under grey sky,
withered grounds,
down valley eerie,
ghosts cheer at me,
holding on hand of mine,
before i slip out,
as im still alive with memories of world left behind.

If you have children/grandchildren, then it's a must-own. Funny & endearing, & well worth several trips. Doesn't seem to be played much on tv, though.

It is although it's not as great as some of the other classic comedies of the era, I give "The Great Outdoors" an 8/10

reply

Yes, it is a must own.

We watch it about twice a year. John Candy's Chet was a great character. Dan Aykroyd's Roman was a little over the top, but they were really good interacting together in this. Compare it with Nothing but Trouble, this was the better film starring both of them. I usually watch this with Uncle Buck and Summer Vacation.
