Lt. Ricor told Jordi to go to warp 6 and Jordi replied full impulse. I always thought that impulse and warp drives were two different prepulsion systems.

Warp = light speed, the number designating the multiple (i.e. Warp 6 = 6 x light speed)
Impulse = sub light speeds for maneuvering around solar systems where you can't use Warp.
They are but that was probubbly before they prefected teknobabble. At that time, they just threw out any sciency sounding terms without rime or reazin, especially Pikkard and Dayta.
Or maybe Jawdee was just an insubordinate punk!
I don't recall that scene, but if it happened that way, had to be an editing error. Even back to TOS, warp and impulse were well defined.

Because if not, it means that although everyone who had seen TOS understood the distinction between impulse drive and warp speed, neither the new writers nor the new actors did.
