I understand this is a teen movie and not supposed to be realistic whatsoever but...

Is being absent nine times in a school year really that bad? Also, how does Ferris expect to graduate or do exams if he plays sick all the time? He would be in high school even longer.

Yes, when I was in school any more than 3-5 times without a doctors note or a kid a pre existing medical condition it raised some flags. It is silly that the principal would go through such lengths to prove it is unexcused but that's what makes it funny.

As far as passing exams. He's very confident and never seems to really worry so I guess he'd figure it out.

I used to skip a lot of school and still managed to pass my exam... often scoring better than the average. I know people like me. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Back then even homework didn't always matter as long as you passed end of year exams and then they changed everything to make the homework, assignments etc more important!

Ten times. This is the tenth time, you see. He has already been absent nine times, he hasn't (at the time) yet been absent this tenth time - THIS absence is just beginning (well, it does happen and end by the end of the movie, but my point is, when Ed is talking about absences on the phone, it has barely started, so it can't yet be called a full absence, maybe 1/10th of an absence).
