10 reasons why Part V is arguably the greatest installment in the series

I've loved Part V from the first viewing and yet I know many who seem to despise it. I never understood this as it has so many essentials that make it a quintessential Friday...

#1 The best sex scene in the series, even though it was largely cut. Thank you Tina! And shame on you MPAA...

#2 The best nude scene as a "prelude to death" scene. Thank you again Tina...

#3 What many view as not "following the set formula" I view as "refreshing without changing the spirit of the formula". In other words, we still get a "Jason". It matters little (to me) that his social security card doesn't actually say Vorhees on it... :)

#4 Part V was actually pivotal as it signaled a shift in the "Friday style", moving from suspenseful camp to more comedic-camp. Many seem to like Part VI or VII (I do as well) yet they seem to forget that V put the first waves in motion in terms of the more absurd deaths and the perverse humor.

#5 Part V is also delightfully "proud" in its sleazy reputation. All Friday films are, but V seems to bask in a envelope-pushing sort of way.

#6 Likewise, director Danny Steinmann's previous work in crafting adult films gives V a somewhat distinct yet very fitting vibe. He seems to have grasped the "exploitive aspect" of the Friday films and uses it to make an especially controversial entry. Balancing it all with dashes of perverse humor.

#7 Tina :)

#8 The violence, while remaining pure camp, is distinctly more emphatic in most cases.

#9 Part V seems to exude a feel and fashion that, perhaps for the first time, is "all-80's". I might concede that Part IV was the first (parts I-III felt predominately like their roots were still in the 70's). Part V feels independent of the 70's, atmospherically, and the sights and scenes all exhibit a decade that was coming into its own in all its excesses.

#10 Tina :)

Guess it's obvious what V's biggest charm is... :)

All in all, V endures for me as a pivotal and highly superb entry in the Friday series. Maybe the best! Critics are free to keep on disagreeing. All I know is that it has all the elements that make Friday The 13th films so campy and yet so ridiculous all at once. About the only negative that can be said of Part V is that we don't have the pleasure of viewing the un-cut film as it was intended! And maybe we never will. Just imagine - more Tina and Eddie mating, more absurd deaths, more everything! Oh well, I can always dream...

I think the critics and MPAA were in on this together. This film seems to have been up against the wall from day one. But I'll leave my conspiracy theories to myself... :)

Have I mentioned I love Tina?

Sounds like you were looking for a porno with a guy pretending to be Jason.

Well you got it.....

Now go jerk off to this pathetic excuse for a movie...

"What color is the boathouse at Hereford!?" 

It does have that quality, yes. After all, the director had previously worked in adult films. Works like a charm in my eyes! :)

In 1985, Friday the 13th: A New Beginning attempted to find out whether the franchise could succeed without the character who made it so iconic. It was a weird experiment. This is the fifth article in a series revisiting one Friday the 13th movie every Friday the 13th. Read parts one, two, three, and four. Let’s start with the most interesting thing about Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning: Jason Voorhees is dead. Not Jon Snow dead-actually dead, at the hands of 12-year-old Tommy Jarvis (Corey Feldman), who slaughtered him with a machete at the end of Friday the 13th Part IV: The Final Chapter. A Jason-less Friday the 13th is not as stupid an idea as it might sound; after all, the entire

Debi Sue Voorhees nude scene makes us all forget the mistakes in part V.

This film had the best story, the best campy humor, and the most memorable kills.

For how these films go, this one probably is one of the best.

reply

exactly, the best kills, the best violence, the best atmosphere, the best boobs, the best nudity, the best sex, and the best and funniest characters which is the most important quality one of these films has to have to make it one of the best of this series.

reply

lol what? it's a blatant rip off of the original in terms of story. you net nerds just get on here and say anything. smh.

reply

Doesn't matter if it's a rip off. Movie is great. I get highly offended whenever someone bad mouths this movie. This is an insanely fun movie.

reply

lol

reply

Also keep in mind there was no Debi Sue Voorhees type of character in the first one. My God, what a sexy woman she was back then. Makes me cry thinking about how old she is now.

reply

megameme (370) Friday the 13th part 1 is a blatant rip off of Halloween (which Sean Cunningham has admitted to) to begin with, so what's your point?

reply

I hate PT V for the fact that there is the imposter Jason, but moreso because if Jason Voorhies was in fact in this, it could have been on of the greatest F13th entries ever!

The kids in this version are highly, HIGHLY entertaining, maybe because they were on drugs, nymphos, plain crazy, from the streetz - they were all great! Tommy was believable as the severely wounded kid with a short fuse, and gave the entry a dramatic and emotional tinge, and kids like Violet, Demon, Reggie the Reckless were a joy to watch, along with the deranged hillbillies in the woods! lol

If only the real Jason could have toyed with this batch!!

The kills were vicious, the suspense was on-point, the sex was funny. I especially liked how the imposter Jason was done-in!

also why does jason have to be the killer in a friday the 13th film? he's not in the first film.

you're missing the point right there then. it doesn't matter if jason is not in a friday the 13th film. the kill scenes are just as great as in any other friday the 13th film in this film and the atmosphere is just as good as in any other friday the 13th film. this film has some of the best characters, some of the best lines, the best music, the best boobs, the best sex scene, everything at the highest level.

reply

Some of the best nudity too.

i love how you love this film. it has everything a film in this series has to have. it has great, explicit violence, explicit sex, boobs, great, funny characters, great lines, a great tommy jarvis, great campy atmosphere, great music, great tone. it has everything you need in a friday the 13th at the highest level. this film is friday the 13th on speed.

who cares that it doesn't have jason. i've never had a problem with this. every kill scene looks, is executed, and feels like the best kill scenes from the best friday the 13th films. so why can't people just enjoy the violence the way it looks and feels and not care about the kills being done by someone who is not jason?

also the sleaziness and raunchiness of this film i've always loved and always thought are the things which make this one of the best friday the 13th films. bc if you look at this series those things are essential to a friday the 13th film. this series has always been about being controversial from the first film. i love how you've always loved this film from the first time you watched it. i also have always loved this film from the first time i watched it. if you are a fan of this series you have to respect and appreciate this film and you have to know it's one of the 5 or 6 best friday the 13th films ever made.

reply

you're wrong about one thing. about this film being a comedic camp friday the 13th film. it's not, it's a suspenseful camp friday the 13th film.
