The finale is so sad

You really get the sense that they didn't want it to end. It was all Bea Arthur's decision. I really really wish they had just done a new season without Bea and didn't do that stupid Golden Palace show. The last few moments were intense because you knew those were real tears.

reply

I agree. It is a very touching scene.

reply

I agree, I think it could have gone on for at least 2 more seasons.

reply

I agree. I always cry when I watch that scene.

reply

I always cry a little at the finale, every time.
I still am baffled as to why Bea Arthur was so hell~bent on leaving the show.
Yes she'd been playing the same character for years, but it was not only a (very) steady paycheck.....but she was never in the limelight again after that.

She went on to do a (most unsuccessful, according to the press) one woman show live.
Why would Bea think anyone would be that interested in seeing her alone, on a stage??
She came off as very cold when not portraying Dorothy, for one thing.
Boring too I can imagine.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

reply

It was a great show, they didn't think the show would be a hit at first but people of all age groups loved it. I was just a kid when it started but I loved it right away.

reply

I can't watch the finale now, because it is so sad. I agree with what daletterjay180 said. They should have carried on with another season of the original series and maybe added in a new character from there or make an already existing character a regular like Uncle Angelo or something.

reply

Uh, how have you not seen the golden palace?
If you have and it just doesn't do it for ya, I get it, but it sounds like what you want-- more time with the remaining characters.

reply

The Golden Palace was pretty good. I liked it at least. I just feel like as far as the audience was concerned they may have wanted to attempt another season as is. It probably wouldn't have worked anyway.

reply

Maybe if they got Debbie Rynolds it would've lasted another two seasons but fans would be talking non-stop about the decline. It happened to the facts of life.

reply

You know I thought of that too, but I also feel like Debbie Reynolds may have unintentionally stolen the spotlight out from underneath the other three. I could be very wrong on that, but that's just how I thought of it. The other three did not want that show to end, and I feel like all possibilities were considered to keep it going.

reply

I love to be a fly on that wall. See all the ideas they had.

reply

yesss.

A lot of episodes were sad, I just watched the one where they tracked down Michael Jackson's leather jacket at the homeless shelter. It was so sad...

reply

But it was funny when you saw his gloved hand raised above the crowd.

reply

It was funny that Michael Jackson would want to wear an old lady's jacket but I buy old lady sweaters somethines..so I have no room to talk.

reply

I got the Golden Girl book for my birthday a few years ago and they all said that their tears were real and they didn't want the show to end because they were like a family to each other. I agree with you that it was a very sad episode :(
