I believe there was a reason for this. There were only three masks available: a witch, a pumpkin or a skeleton; nothing overly creative or innovative. It was the fact that they were a specific brand (Silver Shamrock) and were heavily marketed with commercials aimed at children; this is what made them desirable. Kids absolutely had to have this brand because they saw it on TV.

I interpreted it as social commentary about the effects of the media and advertising industry on the public. A lot of people will purchase a mediocre product solely because of the brand name, or because some celebrity endorses it.

I bought all 3 of them a couple weeks ago for 152 bucks at party city. Officially licensed. The witch is like 10 bucks more than the skull and pumpkin, there's more to it. It has fabric...I love them.
