Christmas Story vs. Christmas Vacation

Which do you prefer ?

reply

Christmas Vacation. I never understood the drone like cult following of Christmas Story

reply

Then why are you here? Yes, we on this form have a cult-like devotion to this movie and come together each year to indulge it. Naysayers may leave!

reply

Why’d you ask?

reply

Its a tradition for many and takes many of us back to childhood.

reply

I never understood the drone like cult following of "Vacation". It's worth one viewing, then can be forgotten.

reply

Christmas Story is the best while Vacation is still pretty good.

reply

Story is my preference.

reply

They're both great movies but I slightly prefer "A Christmas Story" because the movie was far more consistent (I didn't care much for the scenes with the yuppie neighbors on "Christmas Vacation").

reply

I am really glad I don't have to pick one and forgo the other. Strictly grading on laughs, Christmas Vacation wins for me. But as for how much heart a movie has AND laughs, the two movies come up about tied. These are literally my top 2 favorite movies and I have rated over 5,000 titles. It sure would be nice to rank on a 100 point scale instead of a 10 point scale.

Christmas Story is a far superior film to CV. I like both, but there are beautiful moments in the former, while the latter is forever immersed in slapstick.

While i now have a much greater appreciation for Christmas Vacation I still prefer A Christmas Story.

Comparing a work written by Jean Shepard to the smug fratboy Onanisms of the National Lampoon is like being asked to choose between a life of enlightenment and a life of snickering and fake IDs.

reply

I like both of them. They are two different types of movie so it's apples to oranges comparison.

reply

When was the last time you snickered?

reply

I have never snickered, but I have made thousands of people laugh from their bellies. I also know the staff of NatLamp. You do not, Rhonda.

reply

Only thousands?
