I don't know what, if any, Oscars Star Trek II won but I think it could have been at least nominated for Screenplay, FX, Score, and Sound.
Oh yeah, Costumes too!

reply

It wasn't even nominated for one (unlike several of the other films)

reply

that's crazy, Star Trek II had to be one of the top 5 grossing movies of 1982, probably Paramount's biggest success that year.

reply

Its strange that it wasn't even nominated for any of the technical Oscars especially FX as not only were the starships models and nebula stuff really impressive I believe it had the first ever use of CGI in film with the Genesis presentation. that year the 3 nominations were ET(won) Blade Runner (can you believe BR lost out to ET?!) and Poltergeist so I guess STII just missed out (reusing TMP FX probably didn't help). TMP had been nominated for 3 Oscars including score and FX (lost to Alien)

Here's the rest of the Trek oscar nominations (IV, VI, FC, the 3 JJ films)

I don't know about Oscars, but how about scream queen award for Shatner?

LOL!

Heres a Variety ad for Shatner for best actor!

I would have given it BP, Screenplay, Supporting actor for either Montalban or Nimoy, and score. Not sure it deserved director although I loved the movie since it feels a little made for TV and the FX were cheap for the time too.

reply

The ILM FX were not cheap for the time and still hold up today, also had the first use if CGI in a movie which again still looks impressive (due to it being used as documentary footage)

reply

Score and maybe costumes. Nothing else. Definitely not acting.

Love the movie though. My favorite Trek film.

A lot of these, I don't know about, but Shatner for actor and film/director/screenplay are a big NO - obviously out of the question.

FX doesn't work in a year when Blade Runner was out... Nevermind the actual nominees.

Also, score is just not reasonable. Nominees included Raiders and Dragonslayer - Conan and First Blood were '82 as well as Blade Runner (which was probably a better choice than Chariots of Fire). All in all, lots of scores at least as good.
