About as scary as Ghostbusters

I'd say that's a pretty fair comparison. Both films contain cheesy special effects and came out within two years of each other. This movie is about as freightening as Ghostbusters.

This movie is about as freightening as Ghostbusters? You're kidding right?

You're an idiot. I don't really get scared by movies. This scares the hell out of me. You really are a certified moron.

How were you when you saw this for the first time? I was 9 and it scared the hell of out me.

reply

It scared me when i was younger. As you grow older these films become less scary you realize these are actor's and special effects

Great post. I saw this around the same age when these kind of effects were the still some of the latest thing going and it really frightened me. To watch this a first time as a much older person, and having had effects change a lot since, of course it will not have the same kind of impact.

This movie would have aged so much better if Spielberg had suggested instead of shown his ghosts. But Spielberg likes big, splashy effects which is why today "Poltergeist" is more campy fun than a timeless treasure.

Totally agree today, not when it came out in 82 but today its as scary as GB....but we can blame Lameberg for that.

For a PG rated horror from the early 80's I think it does ok. Sure, it's not so scary now but it has its moments and is entertaining. The scene on the staircase with the videocamera is kind of chilling.
