Wouldn't it be MORE respectful to the ideal of the country to just LET people wear and be whatever they want, to truly make it a land of the FREE?
It sounds very oppressive if you can't even wear an old jacket without being hassled just because there's some certain color on the sleeve, or if your hairstyle is longer than 2 millimeters, it's like fashion police, but worse. What the hell business is it of any cop what you're WEARING as long as you haven't breached peace?
The cop was way out of his jurisdiction there, he had no authority over Rambo, and Rambo had no obligation to listen or obey anything the cop said. Completely unlawful actions.
