Still works (most of it anyway)

Big hit at the time and I remember liking it as well. The only thing that's really dated is the dialogue - I suspect it was deliberately, ironically(?), non-PC at the time but the real problem is so much of it feels clumsy and stilted. But that aside there is a lot to like - Nick Nolte being very big and purposeful, Eddie Murphy not trying to motor-mouth his way through every scene, many other familiar faces and all the pretty girls of the time, the sound track and the grainy cinematography. Overall, still a pretty enjoyable film.

Yeah I just rewatched it and still found it funny and really enjoyable. The only problem, which I've always had this problem with the film, is that the climax feels very weak.
