Never any discussion about the Werewolf that bit David

Was it itself a Werewolf, and why didn't it venture into the villages or cities to reek havoc?

Why weren't there more bitten and stricken humans in the Norf of England as well?

"Was it itself a Werewolf..."

It was a werewolf for sure. No wild wolves in England, and in any event I've never heard of an ordinary wolf turning someone into a werewolf.

"... and why didn't it venture into the villages or cities to reek havoc?"

Far more likely it would have been seen, and possibly caught. Predatory wild animals tend to avoid towns.

"Why weren't there more bitten and stricken humans in the Norf of England as well?"

It was a small community and they all knew to wait out every full moon together in the pub (they probably knew the werewolf, too).

Trust me it’s easy to be confused, I know I was when I first saw this as a kid when this was first run in the theaters. There’s a lot going on in the scene where David & Jack were attacked but I’ll try to break it down for ya. Yeah the wolf that attacked them was a werewolf.

Remember the people at the tavern who let David & Jack go out into the night? Even though the barmaid tried to get them to stop them saying “it’s murder if you let them go”. Because everyone there knew the deal about the wolf prowling the moors but they didn’t want to come off as crazy trying to convince the 2 Yanks who they didn’t really care for in the first place anyway. They told them “Stick to the roads, keep off the moors”

Well of course when they leave you see them as plain as day wander off the road into the moors & then they hear the growling & then Jack gets attacked & torn to shreds by the wolf. Then the wolf lunges at David, bites him & tries to finish him off before you see the townsfolk who I guess actually had a conscience after all shoot it in mid leap.

Now you see Jack torn to shit, you see David on the ground & then you see a naked guy lying in the field with a gaping hole in his side. That was the werewolf, or actually the man who was the werewolf. When I first saw this, that is what threw me off because so much was going on I was actually like “who’s that?” Because I didn’t understand what was going on at first but it’s simple.

The werewolf probably just stuck to the moors so it could hunt livestock, other wild animals, unfortunate people, etc. It probably wanted to be left alone & shied away from the regular towns & cities. We also know that this man whoever he was, was of course bitten by another werewolf, so in answer to your question, yes there were more, somewhere.

Just exactly how many & where, the movie doesn’t answer. Some people who watch this film wind up concluding & I don’t know why that David represented the end of the blood line, that he was the last werewolf & after him it was all finished. The thing is for those that believe this I can’t see how this could possibly be true, especially again considering the wolf that bit the guy that bit David & the wolf that bit him that guy in turn. Is everyone saying that they believe all these men OR women were already dead? If so, how & why do you arrive at this conclusion? This is what perplexes me. Oh well.

“Was it itself”? Welcome to the Department of Redundancy Department.

“Reek” means smell or stink. “To wreak” means to deliver or inflict.

Literacy: what a concept.
