Last Temptation of Christ

Was Superman 2 influenced by The Last Temptation of Christ (the 1955 book and obviously not the 1988 movie)? A large portion of the movie features Superman giving up his powers and selfless responsibilities to live a normal life with a significant other only to realize he needs to fulfill his purpose to save the world and calls out to his divine father to give him another chance just like Jesus in Last Temptation. If so, it adds more to how Superman is supposed to be a Christ figure.
