Was this the little-known, unaired pilot of The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams where it shows the technique that he used to tame his bear friend Ben? You can imagine why they went with the alternate pilot episode.

In the first couple episodes sometimes he was referred to as "the Bear" but eventually they just shortened it to Bear.

PS: The reason they called him Bear was that he was supposed to have been named after football coach Bear Bryant.
