Boring?

I didn’t care for this movie the one time I watched it. It seemed boring to me. Of course, I was a lot younger and maybe just not old enough to “get” it.

I did see Manhattan a few months ago and LOVED it. Also love Danny Rose and Midnight in Paris. Should I give Annie Hall another shot, or can someone tell me what they feel is great about this film? Thanks!

I loved Annie Hall, but even at the time I realized it was not for everyone. Your initial instincts were probably right, but only you can decide if you want to revisit the movie.

Manhattan Murder Mystery, and the The Curse of the Jade Scorpion, are pretty comedic and quintessential Woody Allen, you might give them a try.

I’ll wait for it on Tubi. They stream a lot of Woody Allen films, so it’ll probably show up there sooner or later. Or free IMDB streaming, too.

I like Allen’s serious films like Interiors and Another Woman, too.

Didn’t care for Matchpoint, not sure why people like it so much.

I like Woody's serious stuff too. Also liked Match Point. The one I saw recently and bought on Amazon Prime was Curse of the Jade Scorpion. Woody's movies you either like or don't like. I am hoping his last movie filmed in Spain, Rifkin's Festival at some point makes it to release on Amazon

I finally rewatched Annie Hall. It’s quite a mature film, no wonder I didn’t “get” it when I was younger. Great film about relationships, feels very real. Glad I gave it another chance!

reply

How old were you when you first saw it? I was in high school.

reply

Yeah, I was gonna say it may have been an age thing and you should rewatch it. Unless you're the type of guy who only watches Bruce Willis and Jean-Claude Van Damme, then "Annie Hall" is definitely not boring.

reply

Definitely an age thing. I watched it initially in my early teens, missed most of the cultural references and didn’t have any personal relationship experiences yet through which to relate.

reply

It's not boring at all.
