Glamourous people with mental illnesses

Watching this film, it became instantly clear as to the appeal of this film... It is about two well-spoken, well-mannered, well-educated, and well-cultured people who are surrounded by the contrast of their squalor and filth. The dilapidated Mansion is an allegory for their faded glory. They still hold on to their pasts, and have little interest in adapting to the present times. All they have left are their memories, collecting dust. They live in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the World, yet they live like vagrants. They are the remnants of high-society of days gone by, and their class and wit seems to shine through their severely dysfunctional lifestyle. They are genuinely interesting people, they seem to always have something to say. Even Little Edie is quite the trendsetter with her bold fashion statements, sun tanning, and makeup.

yep, pretty much all you said.

Ditto
Reminded me of Baby Jane

reply

True. Jane and her sister weren't exactly poster children for mental health either.

reply

Yeah, all true; however, I, too live in the past and have little interest in adapting to the present time. Yet I keep my home and myself clean and neat at all times. The squalor those two women live in seems to be the result of mental illness.

reply

For sure

reply

What most people today don't realize is that this isn't just a reflection of a certain time period. There are wealthy people alive right now who live like this all over the world.
