Man! I Remember This!

This was one of the films my father took me & my sister to see when we were children. He took us to all the horror films. Hated bugs then & now but it was an ok movie from what little I can remember of it.

What was the message they spelled for Parmiter on the wall before they killed him? Something about “You must be destroyed”. But why? Were they pissed that he was responsible for their existence? I doubt anyone here remembers verbatim what was said but that’s one part of the movie I remember clearly is that they tried to talk to him at the end. That & the phone scene. Anyone else?

Oh, really?

FSK18 and certainly YOU know what that means. 😎

reply

Uh, no I don’t. Why don’t you enlighten me since you brought it up?

Ah I see. That was part of the confusion. You assumed either I was in Europe as well or the rest of the world has this rating guideline? I’m American & our rating system is a little different. We have “R” for “restricted”. No one under 18 allowed WITHOUT parents. So we still can see “R” rated movies as this type as long as we’re with our parents or an adult(s).

Trust me, I’ve seen many things a child shouldn’t be taken to see “Exorcist anyone?” But hey I turned out ok. “Bug” rates low on the totem pole as to who should be allowed to see it. It’s like saying I shouldn’t have been allowed to go and see “Ben” or “Willard” or say for instance “Squirm” the only other gross insect movie of the 70’s. Seeing any of these movies is not that deep.

Now that they were on the surface, they no doubt wanted to be the supreme species; hence, humanity had to be destroyed.

I can't remember the entire (short) message the bugs spelled on the wall, but the creepiest bit was when they 'wrote' "WE LIVE".

Yah, that's really creepy. ☻

No, anything with cockroaches, forget it.

As a kid, I remember the bugs being identified as beetles. There was a synopsis of the movie that stated they were incinerary beetles or something like that. Not that I like those either, but I was able to watch the film without too much gagging, even as a child. One of the yuckiest parts is when Parmiter was asleep & they landed on his bare chest & then drew blood & he woke up from the pain. That I remember.

The part of him creating or breeding the bugs I totally forgot about. All I remembered was that they came up from the earth & I thought that was basically the storyline of the movie but now I read it’s a little more involved than I thought. Must have forgotten all that jazz about Parmiter cross breeding the original ones with the roaches.

Which makes one wonder what the hell he was thinking in doing that. With insects no less? Yeah that was going to get away from you for sure. What did he think was going to happen?

That reminds me of when I was a kid. My mother always called those giant cockroaches "water beetles". Sure, they're not the same thing as those little German cockroaches, the ones which carry disease. But they're still a type of cockroach.

You want to see HUGE cockroaches? (even typing that makes me queasy.) Then go to Hawaii. Hear that they’re MASSIVE there. Everyone I know that’s ever been there mentioned that to me.

reply

Yes. I've heard about Hawaiian cockroaches. And they fly!!! Yikes!!!
