I don't think those that weren't alive when this show was originally broadcast understand....

the impact this show had.

It was one of those shows that HAD to be watched by its viewers and where schedules and family happenings were planned around when it was on (that is of course until it "jumped the shark").

their loss. I grew up watching this show and yes I remember it's original (later season) airings. Okay I know those seasons take a beating re purity (1980's hair...etc). But I watched original happy days!! This puts me in a privileged group of people.

Watched it as a kid but as I got older it made me cringe more and more. And the Fonz just gets increasingly annoying.

Yeah, once it became The Fonzie Show the quality was gone. Unfortunately, the ratings increased at this point (common denominator and all that) but I watched for a couple of more seasons they switched to a studio audience and then I just stopped, and that was LONG before the shark episode.

If there are any from the first couple of seasons that pop up on TV, I'll stop and watch those.

When the show it started it had a slightly darker tone to it, Fonz really did come off as a hood and the guys were talking about more than just making out with chicks. It didn't take long before it became family safe entertainment and the characters, especially Fonzie became caricatures.

The audience used to bug me as well, cast member walks on and they have to wait, break character at times and smile self consciously until the audience calmed down.
