Why does Interstellar have a higher rating than 2001.

I know that Interstellar was a pretty good movie. But seriously. How does it have a better rating than "visual poetry" "the greatest sci-fi film of all time" and "pure cinema". I mean, this s**t is majestically. It shows the journey from the dawn of man, to the first contact, all the way until man turns into star child. It is intense, meaningful, thought provoking, and beautiful. If you still have no idea what I'm talking about, Interstellar is #33 and 2001 is #89.

Because it still has the hype that comes from being new.

The attention span of your average Nolanite is as short as their willy.

Yeah, Interstellar is nowhere near as good as 2001. But 2001 is a film that needs more than one viewing to appreciate. I hated it the first time. The second time was a completely different experience. Interstellar had the opposite effect. I liked it a lot when I first saw it but it suffers on subsequent viewings.

This, exactly. I have no need or desire to see Interstellar again. But I could watch 2001 again this very minute.
