1st season

Andy had a totally differant personailty...he was more "homespun" and a hick.

He was modeling his early portrayal after his No Time for Sargeants character. I did notice that he became more contemporary after season 2. Think he was actually a little grumpy in later seasons. LOL

Yes, I disliked the grumpiness later on. While becoming less hick-like, he still should have kept that slightly devilish, mischievous streak he often used to tease Barney. And others at times, too.

Except for a few episodes I didn't really care for season 1. The episodes I like are the one about selling the canon, the one where Opie is mad he didn't win a medal, the one where a runaway boy befriends Opie, and the one where Opie runs away because Aunt Bee insists that he should not go to see Andy at the police station. The rest I just don't like that much.

Edit: I am biased though as the first episodes I ever watched and enjoyed as a kid were from season 3.

He played a textbook hick in the Danny Thomas show episode where Danny got caught in a small town speed trap. That definitely carried over to the first season.
