frustration of marathons

i could pop in my dvds and do my own marathon and avoid commercials and edits but theres something comforting about tuning in and watching the marathon

Jason, I know exactly what you mean. It is quite frustrating, however, it hits me with strong nostalgia with it being on live tv. My gripe that I have with this year’s marathon is the promo that I discussed in another thread with the massive spoilers and the tone it’s presenting. But I still enjoy watching it live on tv.

I feel like I am actually watching it with others by watching it on tv. The commercials are nice for bathroom breaks but whan something is cut out and you notice it really sucks

reply

I know exactly what you mean, lol. Yeah, I manage the breaks, but the edits are a bit jarring.

Comericals= breaks

But edits I cant deal with it.

I see it as a preview. If I like it, I add it to my watch list.

I've never minded commercial breaks with Twilight Zone cause the episodes are always structured in a couple acts so it always feels natural to have little intermissions, an effect I feel actually gets lost when viewing dvds.

I know what you mean, and I get the same feeling, watching it broadcast. But... I got rid of cable (and don't really miss it), so I don't get SyFy anymore. This year I've had no option but to put my bluray edition on and review my favorite episodes. The downside is that you miss that sense of participating in the yearly event that is the marathon. The upside is, you aren't watching the same handful of irritating commercials fifty times; you can skip the episodes you don't like (and even as great a show as TZ had some bad episodes), and you get the full episode without three or so minutes cut out of each one to make room for more commercials).

But, the cool thing about marathons is that you don't know what the next episode is going to be so, it is a nice surprise for you....

reply

Yes, synchronicity. Millions of others are watching it. Remember in the '70s when half the country use to watch the same shows at the same time?
