Nah, the reason Rainier married her was 'Rear Window'. I almost fell in love with her there, with both her looks and her personality. Beyond belief. I also think that this movie proved what a tremendous actress she was.
Catherine Deneuve was certainly in the same league, both beauty and talentwise, although she is a colder and more reserved type. Ava Gardner was as gorgeous, but she didn't have that kind of vulnerability. Liz Taylor had a gorgeous face, certainly in the same league, but her body left to be desired for. A lot of people would add Audrey Hepburn to that list, but I wouldn't. She is too much of a child-woman and honestly I think she is too worn out and too spent as a beauty ideal, to the point that it has by now become trivial. Alida Valli wasn't exactly ugly, either.
I always liked Isabelle Adjani, though and Faye Dunaway, both ´looks and artisticly. Last, but not least, drop-dead gorgeous Claudia Cardinale.
Of course, all the women with this kind of looks don't make movies, they become straight models. And this is why there is so much room left for those wanna-bes of Hollywood. All of them second rate. Maybe Monica Bellucci being the big exception. I also like the Chinese actresses like Gong Li or Maggie Cheung. Especially the latter is stunning.
Grace Kelly's granddaughter, Charlotte Casiraghi, inherited her beauty, though. Sure, she doesn't have that talent and the brains that go with it. But still, she is still more beautiful than all those wanna-be beauties from Hollywood altogether. They look trivial next to her.
