I didn't think she was homely whatsoever. It was a stretch to make Olivia de Havilland ugly but I had to play along. I enjoyed the movie anyway.

Yeah, with more charisma, Catherine might have been able to compensate for her plainness. You can't help but feel sorry for her, especially with her father's over-high expectations. In fact, his coldness and disappointed attitude might have actually repressed Catherine's more charming side-- we get glimpses of her wit during the ball when she's alone with her aunt, for instance (she jokes about her aunt's husband being in hell at one point, showing a rather dark sense of humor).

Her father didn't believe any man could want his daughter except for her inheritance. Since he felt that way, he shouldn't have rejected Morris. Maybe she would've blossomed overtime with him.
I don't think so, either. Her eyebrows needed shaping.
