What would Potter do next?

Mr. Potter clearly has some form of narcissistic personality disorder and persists in his attempts to ruin George’s life, and he thinks he has finally got him with the incident involving the $8,000 dollars, but what would Potter do next when he finds out because of George having so many friends who were willing to pitch in to help him recoup the money that his evil plan did not work? Perhaps he tries to destroy George’s reputation so he will not have any friends to turn to, even going so far as to get the teacher who George chewed out over the phone to tell her story so the town will think George is a bad man and plant doubt about his good nature.

The guy was old, sick, and in a wheel chair. George was central to a lot of the townsfolk financially. No little tiff with the school teacher was going to hurt George. Potter most likely would be into his dirt nap by the time the next opportunity came along. All that aside George was squeaky clean. He did not cheat on his wife or beat the kids.

It wasn't personal. Potter was money & power hungry and George stood in his way. Remember, Potter was willing to hire George and give him a good salary to gain control of George's bank which allowed poor people to move from Potter's slums to homeownership.

Potter will plot other ways to gain control of George's bank, but all will likely fail. Potter will die a bitter, lonely old man while George, his family and town will thrive. My guess is that George's sons continue running the bank.

Sure it was. George once called Potter a warped frustrated old man, and Potter had said that the Baileys were a constant thorn in his side even when George's dad owned it.

Potter indeed wanted control of the Building and Loan, but he achieved great personal satisfaction when George came crawling to him.

Mr. Potter's main goals are power, control and money. He is used to exploiting and controlling everyone except George and his father who are outside his reach. That makes George a target because he is preventing Potter from pursuing his main goals. If George had decided to work for Potter and helped him gain more power and money as well as sucked up to him, Potter would be friendlier towards him.

I agree with the OP who says Potter has a personality order.

Now thinking of it, with Potter not having any relatives who would get his money when he died? Also as for what the TC said, Potter was probably a year or so from dying. Besides, most of the town hates Potter. So what the TC said would lead to nothing.
