What happened to her career?

She was a break-out star in Sleepy Hollow and had also appeared in the solid baseball drama 42.

Then the next thing you knew, she was getting killed off on Sleepy Hollow.

Now if you look up her filmography, she has Jacob's Ladder coming out in 2019 but not a single project in development after that.

What happened, Nicole?

Nicole Beharie (Sleepy Hollow, Miss Juneteeth, Black Mirror, etc.) is apparently an awful person

Her career is back in gear these days, but she did say in an interview a couple of years back that she was sick during the time she was filming Sleepy Hollow, but that she wasn't taken seriously about it. Basically, from other articles I've read, she had a hard time adjusting to being the lead of a show, and so did her co-star, the English actor who played Ichabod Crane. It was said that she wasn't given any real help in adjusting to the show, and that part of the reason she wasn't helped is because, to be frank, she wasn't given any respect or help because she's black. The fact that in the second season, her character got kind of pushed to the side, then killed off, speaks volumes. That turned out to be a big mistake on the show's part, because the series barely made it into 3rd season before it was cancelled. Fans of the show liked her character's chemistry and dynamic with Crane, meaning that when her character got bumped off, the show's days were numbered. I wasn't surprised that the show got cancelled after she left, since she and Crane, and them fighting monsters were the main reason the show was so popular in the first place.
