How is Taylor Swift any different from Katy Perry?

Their music is basically interchangeable these days so I guess it just comes down to image. Taylor has always been taken a little more seriously than Katy by music critics because of her country pop, guitar-strumming, singer-songwriting past. She still has a lot of country fans on her side and she's managed to collaborate/perform with/be cosigned by "respected" artists (Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Stevie Nicks, etc) whereas Katy really hasn't. Taylor's move away from country pop and into straight up mainstream pop was noteworthy to some, and she's given a pass for her music quicker than other pop girls.

Plus, the court of public opinion is an important one, and Taylor and her team have crafted and maintained this image of a goofy, relatable, good, "all-American girl" who is constantly attacked and victimised by others (Kanye, Kim, Katy, paparazzi) and always gets her heart broken by famous men, only to then write songs about them, dropping obvious clues as to who they might be. When she gets called out for this tacky behaviour, she deflects and makes it into a feminism issue - so now, if you attack her, you're the asshole. She never really speaks on her personal, political or social beliefs so she doesn't lose fans for those reasons. She has her "squad" made up of models and entertainers that her fans aspire to be a part of.

Everything about her is crafted to a T, whereas Katy is more of a mess. I don't like either of them tbh, but Katy has more bops.

TayTay comes from money and her parents bought her a veneer of "authenticity" by building her career up through Nashville. It's all a lie, but a well constructed one built on the talent of top flight session players and country producers.

Taylor may still have some fans, but she DEFINETLY has lost a lot, plus she's not as respected and taken seriously as she was in 2008/2009 (sorry but it's true).

Not sure if this amounts to anything, but I think they are equally gropable.

These pop stars are all interchangeable, and could each be singing each other's songs and you'd never know the difference. Only Bruno Mars is reasonably entertaining.

you have really gone mental!
