What if Peter couldn't forgive himself?

What if Peter could not forgive himself after he denied Jesus? Let's say that when Jesus appears again, Peter cannot bear his remorse and runs away, feeling he does not deserve to be forgiven, and lives the rest of his life in his own remorse, without becoming an apostle. What would happen to him afterward?

Hey, Peter finally admitted to breaking Carol’s vase. It’s been about 50 years. If he can’t forgive himself, what can you do?

Not as many people would have come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Thankfully after Jesus ressurected him, he came to him and asked him 3 times if he loved him. Then forgave him. I like that in John 21.
