OP didn't mention anything about black vs white though. Just said he wasn't white which is more pertinent since the person/character (depending on your belief) has been officially misrepresented by Europeans since the religion first spread throughout Europe & created him in their own image. Still going strong with it too.

People from the Middle East are Caucasian. They can be swarthy and curly haired with prominent noses, or they can be fair with light hair and smaller features. Traditionally, artists have defaulted to the latter when depicting Jesus, but to default to the former is no more likely to be accurate, because nobody knows what Jesus looked like, if he even existed.
