technically died an innocent man.

got the book today and was skimming it.

>> He died on January 3, 1967 in Dallas, Texas, USA.

Kennedy was assassinated Nov. 22 1963 ... I never realized Ruby lived so long, somehow I thought he died weeks after he shot Oswald. How weird that there is no account of his story that has make it widely public. I bet they guarded him pretty carefully.

reply

Reminds me of the scene from JFK (1991) when Ruby says:

"Then you don't stand a chance, Mr. Chief Justice, you have a lost cause. All I want is a lie detector test, and you refuse to give it to me. Because as it stands now - and the truth serum - how do you pronounce it - Pentothal - whatever it is. They will not give it to me, because I want to tell the truth ... And then I want to leave this world".

Great movie.

reply

Don't confuse movies with reality.
I like Oliver Stone's nonfiction and documentaries, but his movies don't really impress me. He's a strange bird.

reply

Are you telling me JFK was not a documentary? Must have missed that.

He can't be that strange if he made one of the best films ever. Two if you count Platoon.

reply

> JFK is a 1991 American epic political thriller film directed by Oliver Stone. It examines the events leading to the assassination of United States President John F. Kennedy.

There is so much conflicting data and unreleased data. missing data, and disinformation it is impossible to make a documentary about the Kennedy assassination ... but JFK was one of those True Story untrue movies meant to be a thriller.

I don't care much for Viet Nam movies, at least in terms of taking them seriously.

reply

"Are you telling me JFK was not a documentary?"

Is this a serious question?

reply

I didn't ask the question or make the claim. Why are you asking me?

reply

Nov. 22/1963

reply

Thanks, corrected.

reply

welcome.

reply

He committed the first murder telecast live on television and yet he's an innocent man? You should have been his attorney then.

reply

hence the word technically.

reply

Ok, the proverbial "smoking gun ", was no smoking gun after all, which reiterates my point, that you should have been his criminal defense attorney.

reply

the conviction was overturned and new trial was ordered and then he died. so he died a presumed innocent man.

reply

Why even read the book then since your mind seems to have been prematurely made up?

reply

i was just making a factual statement about his legal status. obviously, he shot oswald.

reply

You seem to be missing the point. In the United States subjects have a presumption of innocence and Jack Ruby was never convicted of any crime. Legally speaking, Jack Ruby was never declared guilty.

reply

Yeah, I get the semantics. If a defendant is bound over for trial after a preliminary hearing, the notion of "presumed innocent" goes out the window right there, since that outcome has concluded that enough evidence was presented to assume that he probably committed the crime. Legal pundits often say that a verdict of not guilty does not mean innocent. Seeing that word applied to a sleazeball like Jack Ruby just kind of nauseated me and I was expressing my occasional cynicism of the system.

reply

Indeed.

I don't know enough about Jack Ruby as a person to make a value judgement in that respect, but I'm sure that in regard to his killing of Oswald some would use the term "patriot" instead of "sleazeball." Not that it's acceptable in an orderly society to have people running around seeking vigilante justice, of course.
