Or, he was tying up loose ends for the real assassins.

i don't think so

Have to agree with TearofLys. My personal opinion is Ruby was doing a Mafia hush-a-bye job on Oswald. Ruby was up to his neck with the underworld in Dallas. I find it hard to believe he was driven to kill Oswald out of righteous wrath. I think he owed someone a big favor and he was given an offer he couldn't refuse as a way out.

and I recall reading Ruby knew he had lung cancer *before* he shot Oswald, so he knew he wasn't long for this world and had nothing to lose. He essentially died from it a few years later. The easily available public sources say he was diagnosed right before he died. Perhaps. Maybe the jail hospital did make that diagnosis, but I am pretty sure he was diagnosed with it years earlier by his own physician. Something like lung cancer typically doesn't go unnoticed right up until the point it kills.

Incredibly bad security by Texas P.D.

Let's tell the entire nation where and when we are transferring Oswald. Ruby heard it on the radio. Let's have live T.V. actually film it!

How dumb we were.

A much needed lesson on restricting information to the press.

Interesting. Wonder if it will say anything about this renowned reporter at the time, the only one to gain an exclusive interview with Ruby during the trial.
