Rather than waste his talent on rock stars, American History X is a great film.

I think the disputes which followed the completion of American History X pretty much stalled his career, and probably soured him against working in the industry. His only completed feature since then - other than a documentary - is the barely-released Adrien Brody movie Detachment.
