She had only 9 worthy roles yet she's one of my favorite actresses ever.
I wonder why she didn't get that many roles and what she would have
done if she hadn't died so young.
She was 43 when she died of breast cancer. Such a waste.
She was beautiful and was an amazing comedic actress.
Her timing and the way she played off her co stars was impeccable.
Her and Jack Lemon were a legendary team.
She really was fantastic, an incredible talent for comedy! I've always said that what separates a good actor from a great actor is the ability to make a script seem better than it is without changing a word, and if you saw the remake of "Born Yesterday" you'd know it's true if Judy Holliday.
I don't know why she did so much theater and so few films. Maybe because there just aren't that many good comedic roles for women, or maybe because the studio heads didn't consider her to be photogenic enough, maybe it was something else. I don't know, but anyone who thought she wasn't pretty had their heads up their asses.
Born Yesterday was one of the best performances I've ever seen.
I do know after that role she was investigated for being a communist during the blacklist period.
She was found innocent but I think word got out.
She certainly was typecast after that.
She wasn't taken seriously has a dramatic actress but never was really given the chance either.
It's just so sad that breast cancer had to bring her down.
I'm told that she also had a serious long-term relationship with a policewoman, so that also may be a factor.
Of course the studios were unabashedly homophobic, which might have dampened their enthusiasm for her comic genius. Or maybe Judy preferred to spend more time in NY than LA, for personal reasons.
If that's the case then I could see that being a factor.
Sad but the sign of the times.
Although, depending on what you believe, It didn't seem to affect the male actors that much.
Another reason I miss godewey. He had such great taste in movies! And he was a fan of one of my favorite actresses.
Too bad her career was cut short by her illness. I think she had many more great roles in her. We lose the good ones so young.
