Could be an interesting read

reply

i don't know much about it.

Did you hear about the most decorated Tommy of WW1 who Hitler later claimed spared his life in the Great War?

I’m not sure if it’s true or some bs he made up, but that’s probably in the book.

Of course. Just thought it was interesting. The book looks like it might be interesting too.

I got this book today and have been perusing it. It is detailed. I got to get my WW1 battles straight.

reply

i am to the end of 1915 and hitler hasn't seen any real combat as of yet.

I finished the book. Hitler was hated by the men of the List Regiment during WW1. He was referred to as a "rear area pig" as he never saw real combat and was given two questionable Iron Crosses. Hitler managed to avoid the trench warfare and was considered an ass kisser by his fellow soldiers. He was never considered for a promotion and remained a Private for the whole four years of the war. He served with many Jewish soldiers some who were his superiors and there appears to be no incident that triggered Hitler's virulent anti-Semitism.

Many of the German Soldiers had French girlfriends or visited the French prostitutes. Hitler did neither. He would spend his time walking around the French town of Lille and reading art books. The guy was like a shadow. Most who served with him thought he was a loser who had no leadership ability. The fact that he would rise to the position of Fuhrer was a shock to his compatriots. The sad part of this book is the Jewish soldiers who saw real combat while Hitler avoided it. Many of those soldiers died in Hitler's concentration camps twenty five years after WW1. Never turn you back on a rear area pig.

Sounds like a lot of bullshit. He didn't visit whores, and read art books? Wow, what an A-hole!
