...for about a month. Then Bush won. Just saying.

No he was not. Gore was never president elect. "On election night, news networks first called Florida for Gore, later retracted the projection, and then called Florida for Bush, before finally retracting that projection as well."

That mean that neither candidate was "President Elect"

You couldn't really be President elect until the electoral college meets and votes. While it is extremely unlikely, if 270 votes were to be cast for Kanye West then he would be President Elect. The term is very specific but network media has never really bothered with accuracy before so why would they start now.

True, he is not president elect til the electoral college certifies the election.
