Producers Guild expels Harvey Weinstein and creates task force to combat sexual assault in Hollywood

The Producers Guild of America's board of directors has voted unanimously to terminate Harvey Weinstein's membership, the organization announced Monday.

The decision was reached during an emergency meeting held today by the PGA's National Board of Directors and Officers in the wake of a rapidly escalating controversy that has seen dozens of women, including high-profile actresses Rose McGowan, Asia Argento, Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie, accuse the former mogul of abuse and harassment.

In addition to voting to expel Weinstein from the group, PGA leaders announced the creation of an anti-sexual harassment task force to research and address sexual harassment within the entertainment industry.

“This morning, the PGA’s National Board of Directors and Officers decided by unanimous vote to institute termination proceedings concerning Harvey Weinstein’s membership," read a statement from Gary Lucchesi and Lori McCreary, presidents of the Producers Guild of America, on behalf of the PGA National Board of Directors and Officers.

"Sexual harassment of any type is completely unacceptable. This is a systemic and pervasive problem requiring immediate industry-wide action. Today, the PGA’s National Board and Officers – composed of 20 women and 18 men -- created the Anti-Sexual Harassment Task Force specifically charged with researching and proposing substantive and effective solutions to sexual harassment in the entertainment industry."

"The PGA calls on leaders throughout the entertainment community to work together to ensure that sexual abuse and harassment are eradicated from the industry.”

Weinstein and his brother Bob were the recipients of the guild's highest honor, the Milestone Award, in 2013.

Per the group's bylaws, Weinstein, who was booted from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Saturday, will have until Nov. 5 to respond to the PGA decision before the termination of his membership is finalized.

I just saw that on the news tonight. His life has really gone to Hell! Not that he doesn't deserve it.
Every time I hear of something else being taken away from him though, I get this picture in my head.... Chuck Conners in the beginning credits of that TV show he was in. It was called Branded.

reply

Gotta be honest
I think hell be back
He may be a dirtbag but...the whole system is broken
I bet you 1$ hes back in two years...weve seen this before...

I think it's more likely he'll produce something overseas, that's then picked up for distribution in America (?)

I don't know...there's lots of sleazy people in Hollywood, and everyone wants to make money, but it's hard to think of name actresses (especially) who'll work for him very SOON (!)

And what are the restrictions on using producers who aren't in the guild? You can't use actors who aren't in the Screen Actors Guild (without writen permision/waivers from that union). Can major projects use producers who aren't members?

Please research this for us, and report back!

reply

Lol actually looked into it earlier today
Youre right...hed have to get funding for a good indie script OR work offshore...union rules, yadda yadda...
I could srsly see this creep rebounding tho...his name Must have some cache in Europe or Asia...
THIS guy is gonna attempt a major comeback...hes not selling cars anytime soon

Maybe he can make a second (or it would be a third, by this time, as he started as a concert promoter) fortune making foreign films in Rome or something, for the overseas market. He could negotiate a percentage of the profits if they don't have the Hollywood salary he's used to.

reply

I think he'll be back, perhaps as a distributor. That's how he made a lot of money and gained a lot of prestige, he distributed indies or foreign films and pushed them for Oscars to get them recognition. Somebody somewhere may want him to keep doing that, although they won't want him to appear in public.

Because, dayamn! This guy doesn't have a single friend or ally anywhere, he must have made an enemy of every last power player in Hollywood.

reply

Yeah maybe so...hes coming back
A real jerk and force of nature.....were gonna see Dirty Harvey again...give it two years...moguls Always beat the rap..:/

reply

I doubt he'll be a public figure again, that's something.

But I don't think he'll do jail time, or be forced out of the movie industry, or go broke, or suffer any consequences except humiliation.

reply

Nope...hell be fine
We NEVER learn
This slimer will be producing foreign indies in a year or two and collecting accolades and millions...lets just wait and see!

And, his wife dumped him on Day 1.

See'ya...

As we watch indignity after indignity being heaped on him, it bears to keep in mind that he absolutely deserves all of it, and more!

Hell, he's getting off easy, he'll never do jail time.

I wonder if his daughter Remy was letting him have it, too, when the police were called to her home. Apparently there was yelling, and I believe there was a report someone hearing him rage, "You're not helping!" or something like that.

Yeah, I have no pity for him. Though, objectively speaking, I really regret he'll be gone on an artistic level; he's one of the few contemporary producers who delivered consistently GREAT, important films.

reply

Probably not, most children of people as mean, demanding, and bad-tempered as HW are terrified of their parents, even as adults.

Perhaps she's an exception and is willing to stand up to him, perhaps a 3rd party yelled back at him. We'll probably never know.

Though, as a woman in her early 20's (his target victim group), she must have feelings of revulsion.
