Wished Roy Batty was in Blade Runner 2049.

I know Roy Batty died in Blade Runner, but he was such an iconic character. How come there was no homage or any mention of him in the new Blade Runner movie? Hell, since this a sci-fi movie they could've gone as far as resurrecting him in some way. I just missed seeing him more again than Deckard.

He was definitely the most interesting character in the original. An easy way around that would have been to have Rutger Hauer play, say the human that Batty was modeled/cloned after.

reply

Yes he was fantastic! I loved his speech at the end, in fact I wrote it down. It was beautiful.

reply

You missed him because he was the narrative and visceral soul of Blade Runner. “I have seen attack ships on fire, off the Tannhauser Gate.” It doesn’t get more Wagnerian than that.

reply

He died though.

reply

Yes, he did, “like tears, in rain.”
One can still miss him.

reply

True.

How good to find a congenial agreement on the internet, and another fan of Roy Batty’s!

reply

Hauer was so good in that part. He improvised a lot of that final speech of Batty's too.

Rutgar Hauer, a most under appreciated actor.

Have you seen Ladyhawke? Or Nighthawks? Or Crossworlds? Or, most of all, The Blood of Heroes? If not, seek them out, and enjoy, especially the first and last. You have a treat in store for you.
