"Patrick isn’t playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard this time, he’s done with [that phase of his career in] Starfleet in this show. That’s about the only thing I do know about the show," he said.

This may come as a shock to fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation in which Stewart bravely led the crew of the USS Enterprise-D (which included Frakes' Commander William T. Riker) on many sci-fi adventures throughout the cosmos.

Picard is expected to premiere on CBS All Access later this year. Kurtzman has described the project as a mix of The Next Generation and Discovery, even alluding to Picard's new place in the Star Trek universe all these years later.

Man that sucks. He's born to be a leader not show useless whatever he's going to be in now. I enjoy him commanding shit. I'm not too sure about this all access crap now but at least we know Picard is getting the Jar Jar Abrams CGI treatment. I am also wearing of this also getting a mix of 'Discovery'. We got enough of that crap with Discovery itself. If it's some majority female airtime/helm, I'mma throw stuff for no reason.

reply

I liked his performance in Picard.

reply

Maybe this isn't the right board/thread for me to say this, but I think that the Picard series really damaged the legacy of Star Trek: The Next Generation and the character of Jean-Luc Picard.

reply

TNG survived a crappy series of movies (including "Generations" and "First Contact"), it will survive "Picard".

reply

True, but it's not the actors' fault. Patrick Stewart didn't know the fate of Picard until shooting day, meaning he didn't have a say.
