She gave an interview a while back where she said something like she's finally come to accept her role in pop culture because of it. Said for years it made her very uncomfortable. That was around the same time she said she was done with the MCU, but now she's coming back again. So who knows how she really feels about anything.
shareThere probably was a long time after those movies where she wasn't especially proud of them and did try to distance herself from them. But that's not uncommon for actors to be like that when they hit big with one role and have a hard time moving away from it. But most of those actors eventually come to terms with it, and appreciate that as an actor you dream of having at least one role which will live on even after you're gone. It does seem like she has reached that point with Star Wars.
Obviously she is incredibly intelligent. So at some point she probably realized that while movies like Closer and Black Swan gave her the critical success she craved and an Oscar, those Star Wars residual checks are still coming in 20 years later. Even if she didn't realize this, I bet she has an agent who pointed this out to her when the chance to do another Thor movie was presented to her.
