Legion is probably the best mindfuck TV show right now

I hate capeshit movies, they are entertaining for exactly an hour and a half, then everybody forgets them since they have absolutely no value (by the way I was never fan of comic books either). Some do have some value as having interesting plots, but that's beside the point. And I have especially low opinion on TV shows from Marvel/DC whatever, however, Legion changed my mind 360 degrees. In all honesty, it is on par with movie Inception right now, and show Mr.Robot (as being dark and very original).

3rd episode was insane. The music, the scenes, everything it was perfect. It is the only capeshit show I saw more than one episode (I tried Flash, too cringey, and one or two others, but I never was a fan of low budget tv shows, especially if they involve superheroes.)

P.S. Oh, and by the way, fuck IMDB. Today I learned boards were closed, well, they were the ONLY reason I went there so not going back. They wrote their death sentence with this dumb move and lose millions of visitors very quickly.

I'm not a big superhero film person either (can't say I've seen "capeshit" used anywhere else before, lol, kudos) so it's always a little bit of effort on my part to get into any of that stuff. That said, this show is right up my alley. I do not think of it in the same vein as all of that stuff because, well, it's just not from my perspective.

There are mutants and powers and high stakes and all that sure, but that stuff is used to drive the story forward in a lot of interesting ways that are about other things as well. They don't seem to use that as a crutch really, I guess is what I'm saying. It's not, "oh these people have powers let's have them blow stuff up for an hour." The thoughtfulness put into what a life and mind would be like with that, the psychology, and the sheer audacity of weirdness this show has is what makes the show worthwhile. Once you view it like that, the powers are almost...I wouldn't say incidental....but they're a plot device really, to push deeper themes.

Sorry you just found out about the boards! It was tough for all of us, hell that's why we're here. I hope you'll stick around this board and the others and get this whole message board thing back on track ;)

wrote long reply, internet disconnected. Whatever :D

So in short, just saw 4th episode and it was even more amazing than 3rd. What drives these series forward is plot and soundtrack to me. And visuals too to some extent. But it seems pretty serious show, like Mr.Robot (huge fan) with some hidden secrets in it which will probably be explained later. Either way, I like it very much and can't wait for next episode.

Word "capeshit" came from troll board known as 4chan and /tv/ board in particular. Populated by trolls mostly so it is impossible to get more serious discussion, since 99 percent of the posts gonna be trolls anyway. I was/am there just for the news mostly and sometimes some opinions, but just browse. But for interesting things and serious discussion always looked on IMDB forums, now on moviechat, hopefully.

I find all those movies and shows very bland. And I'm not particularly entertained by them either (the ones I've seen). I feel that, because they're building this extended universe and everything has to be connected, they can't take many risks and go all out.

I was a bit apprehensive about checking this out, because of that reason (though the X-men movies are the only series of this type that I've liked for the most part and stuck around for).
But I'm glad I did. It fits with my tastes perfectly.

reply

We're right on target, because I'm the same way. Not caring for this stuff much, except for the X-Men so that was maybe why I was just a teensy less apprehensive about this sort of thing than usual...and bam, fits my taste like a glove too!

I couldn't agree more. I'm not a big Marvel or cape movie fan, but I LOVE this!

reply

I'm mid episode 2 and love it so much already. Great acting and story and visuals.

Spoiler alert!

Isn't his dad Xavier? I saw Dan Stevens on James Corden. It was a good interview.

reply

It's still rather unclear on just how faithful this show will be to the comics. In the comics, Xavier is his dad, we don't know for sure if that's the case on the tv show.

reply

Oh ok. Thanks!

There's no "probably" about it. It is!

I've become bored with superhero movies/TV shows because of the same tired formula done to death. Bad guy does something bad and the hero(es) stop him after a fight. So predictable.

This show breaks the mold. This is what creativity and originality looks like.

IMDB seems to believe that only a few posters cared about the message boards. I'm sure plenty of people were interested in reading the boards for opinions or answers without actually posting anything.

I'm with you. I'll watch superhero movies sometimes and yeah they can be fine. But typically it's not my taste and I'm not nerdy about them like a lot of people are. The superhero or 'capeshit' thing was a reason I was apprehensive to watch this one.

But glad I did!

I am too since it's the best thing on TV. I saw it advertised, and then went to IMDB where I discovered it had an 8.8 rating.
"Wow" I thought, "Gotta watch this."

Agreed. Requires close attention to have any idea what's going on.

Also, mostly wanted to say I love and agree with your PS lol. I used to frequent over there, now check it much less, just for the industry news. Hoping these boards will pick up more in time, but at least there's also less in the way of trolls here.
