Anyone ever play billiards before?

I don’t mean pool or “pocket billards” but the balkline game that Robert Preston sings about in “The Music Man” and Murray Hamilton’s character plays in “The Hustler”.

Yes. Used to have some trouble right here in river city, right in my basement

No. There are several varieties of carom (pocketless) billiards. I remember a scene in Star Trek (TOS) episode where Kirk is playing three-cushion billiards with Rayna and she hits a perfect shot (can't find a clip). You can see in link that in that game there is a cue ball and two object balls (red). The object of the game is to carom the cue ball off both object balls while contacting the rail cushions at least three times before contacting the second object ball. This may be the most difficult version.

I don't think so. When I was growing up we had a bumper pool table. That was a lot of fun.

I remember bumper pool. We kids loved it back in the late 1960s--early 1970s. By the late 1970s they were becoming less common, and it's pretty rare to spot one nowadays (in my experience).
