Old film posters - pre 70s

How come they always had drawings of the actors instead of taking a photos ?

I know photoshop wasn't a thing then but you'd think at some point during filming they could have had a day's photoshoot for the posters.

Anyone know the reason?

That practice seemed to extend well into the 80s, and I am a fan.

reply

Really? I always thought it was just older films. What 80s film posters were like this?

reply

This would be a prime example.

Cool!

I believe it was expense. The posters had to be mass produced and they used lithography, which doesn't use photographs.

Ahh πŸ‘ that's the info I was looking for. Thank you 😊

I like those old-style movie posters, I wish they would make a comeback.

The "floating head" style posters used nowadays seem so generic.
