πŸŽ₯ StoneKeeper's Movie Guessing Game: I recommend THIS Movie #2339 [tcrum earns high honors with LIBERAL ARTS]

The bird is in the oven, folks! While that's roasting, it seems like as good a time as any for a festive round. Those who have been playing here for a while might notice that I tend to reserve a particularly scrumptious delight for this appreciative holiday edition.

So, as is the tradition, here is a movie in its own distinctly esteemed class.

I have a movie in mind and you have to guess which one it is. For each movie you guess, I will give a hint that connects your guess with the movie I have in mind.

For each guess, a connection is posted. Example of connections: Actor, length, genre, aspect ratio, language, country, year, director, actor, writer in common, rating, number of votes. It can even be something like: both movies involve Cabbage Patch Kids. Also, you can use Metascore color or rating, Rotten Tomatoes score, any award wins or nominations in common, same number of words in the title, plot keywords. Note: "Plot" in the IMDB advanced search links to "Plot Summary" on the film's page. "Keyword" in the advanced search links to "Plot Keyword" on the film's page.

Helpful search engine: https://www.imdb.com/search/title/ Click on Feature Film and TV Movie and Video. Then modify for the hints as they are posted.

- The winner can either start a new game or say "pass". In case of a pass, the OP gets to start another one.
- After 12 hints and 15 incorrect guesses the point goes to the OP and he/she gets to start another one.
- Movie must have at least 3500 IMDB votes. Otherwise, add a bonus hint. No documentaries.
- Maximum 2 guesses per player per hint.
- Can't edit a guess once posted. Delete ONLY
- Post one Hint at a time.

Let's get it on!

Hint 2: The Dentist (1996) - Stars a prominent actor from the Marvel film franchise.
Hint 3: They Cloned Tyrone (2023) - Oscar winner also in the cast.
Hint 4: Short Cuts (1993) - Drama.
Hint 5: Soul Men (2008) - IMDB user rating is swimming in the 6s.
Hint 6: Better Living Through Chemistry (2014) - Director has writing credit.
Hint 7: Trust Me (2013) - ALLISON JANNEY is in it!
Hint 8: Home for the Holidays (1995) - Romance.
Hint 9: Tallulha (2016) - VFA runtime under 2 hours.
Hint 10: Walking and Talking (1996) - Same IMDB user rating of 6.7.

Despite a less-than-stellar revision to the cataloging system, tcrum finishes off this course strongly with Liberal Arts (2012), a sneaky surprise that might seem a little twee at first (I may have huffed a dismissive "c'mon" a few times during the opening scenes) but ends up achieving a status greater than the sum of its parts.

There's a piece of my heart that still holds onto that fresh promise of undergrad and the idealism imbued within it. Here we have a film that pits that mindset against the altogether indifference of the working world. It may not appeal to everyone, but for those of us who ever savored the experience of holding revealing conversations under falling autumn leaves, it might just warm your soul as it did mine.

I am simply thankful for this movie.

Currently available to stream on various services, including for free on Kanopy and Tubi.

reply

I guesses it before you!!!

Unfair!!!

I deleted my guess… :(

reply

Haaaa I deleted mine too. I assumed it wasn't 6.7.

reply

Dang, missed it by *that* much. I didn't see it. :-(

Don't psych yourself out!

The new imdb is like a whole new level of having to know your facts. You have to know which movies to hit info or open to see your Oscar winners.

reply

First they change the individual page layout to that awful mobile format, and now they nerf the advanced search tool.

Someone gets paid to make these awful decisions and pat themselves on the back.

reply

Yeah but this really separates the who knows and who doesn't...... thats for damn sure. You have to know theres an oscar winner just to click the movie info.

reply

Game at 5 Mountain time today.

reply

When is it?

reply

That is 7pm EST. She's late. Something must have come up.

reply

Sorry yeah I got a phone call I wasn't expecting. I think I'm going to pass somebody else can go.
