What did you watch this week baby love? (12/04-12/10) CLOSED

This how I call my 3 years old daughter. She’d be like; Daddy love? Then I’d be like; Yes baby love?

So cute.

But enough of that. Another week with the flu so another week with many movies:

Fast five (2011 TV): I am not even sure how many movies of this franchise I’ve seen before or if I’m even watching them in order and frankly, I don’t care. I don’t say that in a mean way, I do enjoy these flicks for what they are: over-the-top-testosterone-fuelled-expensive-cars-filled-and-fun-action-none-sense. There you go. My rating: 6.5/10

Management (2008 YouTube): Recommended to me via Stonekeeper’s guessing game by Fred, this was a fine film for a movie night with my loved one. I was enjoying it until they go for bumper cars. That scene took me so much it was cringe and corny. Otherwise, it was sweet and good spirited but the love story too redundant in pattern. An hour in, Woody Harelson shows up and brings a big wave of energy that was lacking so the final act was more entertaining. My rating: 5.5/10

The Power of the dog (2021 Netflix): I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; Benedict Cumberbatch is one of the few actors I just can’t seem to ever enjoy watching, but the fucker keeps making winning movies. So I kind of have to manage my hatred for him, put it on the side and try to enjoy his films for what they are. This one was a uniquely-peculiar-boring-soporific-and-unpleasant-western-drama. I mean, what a pain to watch!!! I fucking hated it with a passion. Half of Cucumberbatch’ s dialogue was about Bronco Henry, so if you’re a fan of the man, I guess that would be cool for you. I didn’t care for it one bit. Even Dunts, not that she didn’t act good, her character was shit is all. Only thing that was mildly fun to watch was the pinano, the banjo, the mountains and the ranch. In other words, the lifeless objects. My rating: 3/10

Becky (2020 Tubi): Another recommended title via my guessing game, by tcrum this time. She loves that movie so I had to see it. I’ll just get the negative out of the way: when the girl says “I don’t have your stupid key” and the guy says “I never mentioned it was a key” that was cringe and stupid and when the dad takes the walkie-talkie and tells his daughter to run as far as possible, instead of telling her to give the stupid key, that was even more stupid. Bottom line is: he deserved to die and she deserved to watch. Ok maybe not that much but still… Now for the positive; first of all, this is one of my favourite kind of horror (revenge/kidnapping/home alone). Then, the main reasons we are here, the characters and the kills were top notch. The girl looks like she’s coming straight out of a comic book and I love it. The rest of the cast is good too. This is the kind of movie where they don’t shy away from the Gore, Oh no au contraire mon ami! Good News: there’s a sequel coming out next year: The wrath of Becky. My rating: 7.5/10

End of the road (2022 Netflix): Reviews are so harsh for this one and I disagree. My wife and I both enjoyed it. The acting might be average but the story was fun and thrilling enough. Plus I really liked the purple tones of the cinematography. My rating: 6.5/10

Welcome Home (2018 Tubi): “A couple spend a weekend at a vacation rental home in the Italian countryside in an attempt to repair their relationship, but soon become victims of the homeowner's sinister plans.“ first off, the lead actress sucks big time and I kept thinking to myself that Mischa Barton would’ve been perfect for the role. Aaron Paul was okay but the highlight was the bad guy. As for the story, it was alright for what it was, a low-budget-sexy-thriller. The ending was slightly disappointing. My rating: 6/10

Silent night (2012 Tubi): Has its nomment that make it well worth the watch. Those moments mainly consisting of the two cops having dialogues together and the axe slicing heads apart. Nice. My rating: 6.5/10

Tokyo godfathers 9/10= its a damn shame more people havent seen this Christmas movie. Subtitles for sure

Onibaba 7/10 goodb1964 BW arsty Japanese film. Would hate to watch it in a cold clinical film class. But in my cozy home on a dark rainy night it was a great experience. I found one of the leading ladies very attractive. That Didn't hurt the viewing at all

Fast five 7/10
The Power of the dog 9/10 (seen it 3 times and own the Criterion blu ray)
Becky 8/10

I watched:

Undercover Holiday 2022 7/10 This was nice and sweet.

Time for Him to Come Home for Christmas 2022 6/10 I didn't find this all that engaging. Performances were okay. I liked the ending.

A Christmas… Present 2022 6/10 This was alright. Acting was okay, story was fine. A couple nice moments.

A Big Fat Family Christmas 2022 7/10 I liked the cast and the story was nicely told.

I’m Glad It’s Christmas 2022 8/10 I enjoyed this. It was very Christmasy and I liked the singing.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover 2022 7/10 This was hot and steamy. I enjoyed it.

Bodies Bodies Bodies 2022 7/10 These people were annoying and not very likeable, but it was amusing when bad things happened to them and they acted like idiots.

The Fabelmans 2022 9/10 This was wonderful. Gabriel LaBelle is very good and I'm rooting for him to get an Oscar nomination. Michelle Williams was excellent and I loved Paul Dano's performance too. The parts of the story with Sammy making films worked the best for me. The family and school drama wasn't as strong, but overall the film is well written and this is Spielberg's best film in over a decade. Currently, my 3rd favourite film of 2022 and my prediction to win best picture.

Scrooge 1970 9/10 Really enjoyed this. Albert Finney is wonderful as Scrooge and I enjoyed the singing.

Scrooge: A Christmas Carol 2022 6/10 This is nowhere near as good as most of the other versions. I liked some of the character designs and there are some interesting visuals. Voice acting is fine, but nobody really stands out. Scrooge has a dog for some reason, which seems out of character, but the dog is cute so I will allow it.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio 2022 8/10 I respect that they took the story in a different direction and some parts of it work better than others. The animation is striking and the character design is memorable. Voice acting was very good and there are some heartfelt moments along the way.

Emancipation 2022 6/10 Will Smith does a good job in the role, but the film itself is mediocre. The story isn't that interesting and it is often generic and predictable. There are a couple strong sequences, but the film feels far too long.

Nutcracker: The Motion Picture 1986 7/10 I liked the costumes, music and dancing. The story wasn't all that interesting though.

The Most Colorful Time of the Year 2022 7/10 I enjoyed this. I liked the leads and thought they had good chemistry.

Christmas Class Reunion 2022 7/10 This was cute and charming. I liked the leads and thought they had nice chemistry.

Fast Five (2011) - The film that pivoted the series in the direction it's still going to this day. I will grant you that most of the stuff that happens in it is preposterous. It's also really cool. 7

Management (2008) - Glad you enjoyed it, even if mildly so. I definitely picks up in the second half, though I wonder if that's attributed to some specific direction choices. 6.5

The Power of the Dog (2021) - The Glower of the Slog. Beautifully crafted but pointless. 4.5

My watches for this week:

Dinner in America (2020) - This movie piqued my interest for being on John Waters' yearly top ten list (https://www.artforum.com/print/202210/john-waters-s-best-films-of-2022-89642). It's crass, ribald, rude, and absolutely amazing. 7.5, might push it up to an 8.

The Winner (1996) - One of those movies that doesn't quite come together until the final shot, but it's a trippy ride all the way thanks to director Alex Cox of Repo Man fame letting the actors run loose. I love the despondent way in which Rebecca De Mornay says "Rocky Road". 6.5

1899 (2022 TV series) - Very intriguing first few episodes before it waffles. Not to spoil the show for those who haven't gotten around to watching it, but it showcased some of the highs and lows over a single season similar to the entire series of LOST. 5

In the Cold of the Night (1990) - Awful lurid trash, and I love it. 7

Yet to watch: GDT's Pinocchio and this particular movie from the '70s...

Dinner un America’s trailer looks very good. In the cold of the night’s not so much.

My week 🎄🎄🎅🏼

My Christmas Family Tree (2021) 7/10
Missed this one last year. I mostly liked it. It was a little schmaltzy, but I expect that from Hallmark. I didn't really need to romance either. Over all it was a little different, even though it was very predictable.

Write Before Christmas (2019) 7/10
So, I watched this one again this year, and still really like it. As I was watching it, I was trying to figure out why I like it so much. I honestly think it has to do with Torrey DeVitto. I really like her, and like I said in my last review, the fact that she actually plays a string instrument really elevates this for me. I know it shouldn't be a big deal, but it is for me. She is really talented. Chad Michael Murphy is charming as well. This isn't a great movie, it really isn't. From the cheesy boy band story, and the utterly shameless Hallmark promotion, there are issues, but I don't care.

Time for Him to Come Home for Christmas (2022) 6.5/10
I find Tyler Hynes really enjoyable to watch. I've only seen one of the other Time to Come Home for Christmas movie, and I did enjoy this one a little more from what I remember. I liked the mystery, but it wasn't really realistic. The miscommunications were a little frustrating, but there would be no movie without them. I did like this, but I didn't love it.

My Southern Family Christmas (2022) 8/10
I don't watch Grey's Anatomy, so this is only the second movie I've seen with Jaicy Elliot, and I really like her as a Hallmark leading lady. I am liking these stories which focus more on the family than the romance. I'm sure in a couple of years I'll be complaining that it's just more of the same, but for now, the novelty hasn't worn off. I like the different setting, and traditions, and I'm happy to see Bruce Campbell back in a Hallmark movie. This one will certainly be going on my rewatch list.

A Dickens of a Holiday! (2021) 6.5/10
This was cute, but I didn't love it. The CGI snow at the end was so distracting. I like both Brooke D'Orsay, and Kristoffer Polaha, and thought they had decent chemistry. I didn't love the plot. There was nothing wrong with it, but it didn't jump out as anything spectacular.

Undercover Holiday (2022) 6/10
This was okay. I know it's a Christmas movie, but the whole stalker/bodyguard story was really very bland, with a 'meh' reveal. I didn't feel a whole lot of chemistry either. I did like the family dynamic and that increased my enjoyment.

Long Lost Christmas (2022) 5/10
Didn't love this one. I've enjoyed Taylor, and Benjamin in other movies, but they both irritated me in this one. I liked the idea of the story, but how she went about things was just meh.

the king' speech (2010) - very narrow in its focus i thought. i thought the fighter should have won best picture oscar that year. 7/10

diary of a chambermaid (1965) - finally saw it and i did like it. jeanne moreau was great and you have to love the anti-fascist message. some people seem to doubt who the killer was, i thought it was obvious. 7.5/10
