What did you super awesome people watch this week? (08/21-08/27) CLOSED

I can’t say I had a super awesome week movie wise. Let’s see what we got:

The day after tomorrow (2004 TV): The main thing I enjoyed from this was the funny moments. As involuntary as they might have been, it was funny to me. Jake Gyllenhall was good but the rest of the cast was so-so. My rating: 5/10

Good burger (1997 Netflix): Watched this with my boys and Good Lord this movie is dumb!! As dumb as a dumb bun. The acting is as cheesy as, well, a cheeseburger I guess. But hey, don’t hate on me, it has that extra nostalgia factor for me and the second half is much better so lettuce enjoy it please. What’s actually the most shocking is how good Kev Mitchell looks as a girl. Ha! My rating: 6/10

Chicago (2002 TV): Probably as far as we can get from my comfort zone movie wise but I managed to enjoy so that’s a feat. What I hate from most musicals is how the talking suddenly stops to make place to ridiculous singing but it this one, the singing and talking are melting together to form a smoothly flowing whole. I found it sharp, fun and cleverly shot. Plus Renée Zellweger was a real hoot. But you know what, it would have been better if we could have seen 🩸. My rating: 7/10

The number 23 (2007 TV): I Love Jim Carey, I think Schumacher makes good films, my birthday is on the 23rd, I always loved that number, almost got it on my tattoo but erased it from the drawing last minute… yet, I hate this movie. I was 22 when it came out, 23 when I first watched it. I was so excited when I rented it! I was so disappointed when I watched it. 15 years later, I give it another chance and nope, it’s just bad. The script sucks, it looks awful and Jim Carey acts like a rookie. My rating: 3.2/10

The perfect storm (2000 TV): Probably one of the best “fishing” movie I’ve ever seen. As for a “storm” movie, it’s up there too. I remembered parts of it but was fun to revisit. I think I actually saw it in the theatre back then. My rating: 7/10

The Incredible Hulk (2008 Netflix): This was at least my 3rd attempt at watching this film. It always was just a question of bad timing and me eventually getting disinterested with it. Now I finally gave it its chance. Although it was (as I predicted it from the start)a bit peculiar for me to see Norton, one of my favourite actors, playing the Hulk, I did manage to enjoy some aspects of this flick. Can’t say it’s great, can’t say it’s bad. My rating: 6/10

Preacher S3 ep 1-2-3-4: I find it to be a soft start, slow and going with moderation, instead of full on batshit-crazy. It keeps things interesting though. The relationships are becoming more complex but in the end, all we want is for our three friends to get along with each other. It’s not fun when Jesse and Cass are fighting :(.

Licorice Pizza and Day Shift.

That’s it? No rating, no feedback?

Have you seen any of mine?

I watched Day shift this week, see my review next Sunday. :)

reply

Licorice Pizza was ok, Day Shift was surprisingly good for a Netflix movie.

Nice

The Day After Tomorrow: 8/10
Chicago: 8/10
The Number 23: not going to say
The Incredible Hulk: 7/10

Scandal (1950) - A celebrity photograph sparks a court case as a tabloid magazine spins a scandalous yarn over a painter and a famous singer. Good, not anything special. (7/10)

Clueless (1995) - Good. (7/10)

Orphan: First Kill (2022) - I'm generally not a fan of prequels, but it was better than they often are despite basically knowing what was going to happen. Surprisingly, I found myself rooting for Esther against the family. (7/10)

Smiles of a Summer Night (1955) - Good, but didn't like it as much as I hoped. (7/10)

Decision to Leave (2022) - A definite disappointment. I thought it largely lacked intensity and intrigue. (7/10)

The Painted Bird (2019) - A young Jewish boy somewhere in Eastern Europe seeks refuge during World War II where he encounters many different characters. Really good. (8/10)

Thief (1981) - An ace safe cracker wants to do one last big heist for the mob before going straight. It was good, but I thought it could have been a little better. The last part was really good. (7/10)

Tahara (2020) - A disappointment because this really good have been good, but really botched the execution in the second half. (6/10)

Vagabond (1985) - I'm not really sure what it was that made this movie good, but it was. (8/10)

La Pointe Courte (1955) (7/10)

Clueless: I think this is better than the more popular Mean Girl. 7/10

The painted bird: it doesn’t look bad at all but I find you courageous watchin a European Black and White movie that is almost 3 hours long. Plus it was released in 2019. Wow 👏

CLOSED??? No way! Why am I always late to the party???

Movies

-The Crush (1993)
Very campy, but unlike a lot of folks on the board, I didn't hate it. I thought it was decently made, although I didn't like the main character all that much. The ending was ridiculous, though.

-Mother's Boys (1993)
The premise was good, but the movie actually made very little use of it and it was mostly a bore. A similar movie like The Good Son did it a lot better. Also, Jamie Lee Curtis is not as sexy as she thinks she is.

-Final Destination (2000)
Another summer favourite. Don't watch it when you plan to go on holiday by plane!

TV Series.

-Models Inc. - marathon
Last batch of episodes. Man, I love this campy 90s soap, although it became a little too over-the-top at the end.

-Monk - marathon
ON HOLD. I've been catching re-runs of Who's the Boss and Golden Girls instead

-The Bold and the Beautiful - marathon of very old episodes
