So... what's a cop supposed to do?

A cop must arrest/restrain a potentially dangerous guy who is uncooperative. The guy can be quite strong, or he can carry a concealed weapon.

So, what he's supposed to do?

This is the big elephant in the room, and for some reason nobody is talking about it. What's the right protocol? Guns? dismissed, if the cop can't shoot, once that becomes clear this is the most likely outcome https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGIpAweGQGQ. Taser? dismissed, it's non lethal, but in some rare cases and health conditions, it could be lethal. Knee on the neck? the same.

Then what?

The only solution I can find is the cop asking the suspect to cooperate. If that's not the case, the cop should tell whoever called him 'sorry, mate, best wishes' and walk away.

Discuss.

EDIT
Answers that actually have proposed something specific until now:
■ Use a taser.
■ Use a spray.
■ Check first that nobody is recording.
■ Tranquilizer darts.

A taser can be lethal in some rare cases (heart condition). A spray can be very dangerous too in some rare cases (respiratory problems).

Tranquilizer darts can be quite dangerous and lethal if you don't the exact right dosage: https://www.quora.com/Why-don-t-law-enforcement-officers-use-tranquilizer-guns-when-they-re-shooting-someone-as-a-way-to-control-the-situation-without-definite-consequences?share=1

What remains is to check that nobody is recording. So, at the end of the day, that's what cops have. If I was a cop, I would walk away and wouldn't get into trouble.

Police officers successfully detain potentiality dangerous and uncooperative people regularly, without having to use lethal force.
If the police officer’s life is being threatened, they have a right to defend themselves just like anyone else in this country. American citizens have the right to not be beaten and murdered by the very people that are supposed to uphold the laws and keep us safe.
Jriley suggested the officer use backup. You dismissed this suggestion saying it just delayed the problem? If 4 cops are unable to detain 1 man without the use of lethal force, then cops need better training or we need better cops.
Let’s not forget this is happening because cops are shooting people in the back, cops are murdering men in the street, cops are shooting innocent old ladies and naked unarmed men, cops are shooting people in the face for traffic violations!
We should all be embarrassed that it took this long for us to say that’s enough.

Two words: hand grenade.

Police will be equipped with a device which will render any type of camera useless within a 4 block radius. This is to help ensure that further unsavory incidents happen in the future.

In addition to said device they will be trained to respond with any one or more of the following lines which should cover any questions asked.

1/ We have developed as a Police Force and achieved a higher status of Liberalism than most. As such we only see humans, not colour, race, gender or religion. Just humans. Therefore we do not know of this "black male" you ask us of.

2/ Our officers are not equipped with knees.

3/ The human you ask us of is safe, somewhere. We promise. That is of course if they exist, which they don't. Because nothing happened.

4/ Are you sure there are witnesses?

5/ They who smelled it, dealt it.

"A cop must arrest/restrain a potentially dangerous guy who is uncooperative."

Why must they? When I moved to this area, cops felt they had to chase any vehicle that refused to pull over ... and they killed a lot of people and destroyed a lot of property in high speed chases. The city changed the rules so that cops couldn't do high speed changes except in very specific circumstances and you know what happened ... less property was destroyed, few people died, and the crime rate didn't change.

Our legal system is broken...
