StoneKeeper's Super Awesome Movie Guessing Game: I Recommend THIS Movie #1094 - Up Your Score [A flawless victory for Kawada_Kira with STREET FIGHTER]

What a day. Fancy another round, anyone?

I have a movie in mind and you have to guess which one it is. For each movie you guess, I will give a hint that connects your guess with the movie I have in mind.

Example of connections: Actor, length, genre, aspect ratio, language, country, year, director, actor, writer in common, rating, number of votes, nominations. It can even be something like: both movies involve Cabbage Patch Kids. Also, you can use Metascore color or rating, Rotten Tomatoes score, any award wins or nominations in common, same number of words in the title, plot keywords.

- The winner can either start a new game or say "pass". In case of a pass, the OP gets to start another one.
- After 12 hints and 13 guesses, the point goes to the OP and he/she gets to start another one.
- Movie must have at least 3500 votes. Otherwise, add a bonus hint.
- Maximum 2 guesses per player per hint.
- Can't edit a guess once posted. Delete ONLY

Let's get it on!

Hint 1: The Vast of Night (2019) - MPA rated PG-13.
Hint 2: The Great Escape (1963) - Adventure.
Hint 3: Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970) - Action.
Hint 4: Twister (1996) - VFA runtime under 2 hours.
Hint 5: Mission: Impossible (1996) - Thriller.
Hint 6: I Am Legend (2007) - USA/English.
Hint 7: Doctor Strange (2016) - Two word title.
Hint 8: Bumblebee (2018) - Under 7.0 rating.
Hint 9: The Mummy (2017) - Japanese co-production.
Hint 10: Mortal Kombat (1995) - Based on a video game.
Hint 11: Captive State (2019) - Director has writing credit.

Kawada_Kira stands supreme with Street Fighter (1994), one of the most widely misunderstood movies to achieve cult status. Written/directed by veteran genre man Stephen de Souza (Die Hard, Commando, 48 Hrs.) this is a self-aware, intentionally cheesy romp (seriously, he delves into it during the DVD commentary) that contains some of the best one-liners and some enjoyably hammy performances. The late Raul Julia kills it, Van Damme is coked out of his mind, and the rest of the acting ensemble get some shining moments - every scene with Zangief is gold. You can't convince me that this wasn't made to elicit laughter.

And yet this scene still gives me the chills: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjZ5I8l32CI

Yes!

But its not action adventure thriller...its action adventure comedy

reply

Thriller is listed too, just not at the top of the page. They only have room for so many genres at the top; the full list of genres is a little below the cast list.

reply

That helps a lot, thx.

I haven't actually watched this movie (apart from a few clips on Youtube), but I remember reading an article once talking about how Raul Julia was initially disinclined to take this role but ultimately ended up doing it because his kids loved the Street Fighter video games and he wanted to give them something to remember him by when he was gone (as he was dying of cancer at the time). He knew the movie wasn't going to be any kind of masterpiece so he just really hammed it up and just had fun with it, and ended up giving a memorable villain performance for the sake of his kids. It's a good backstory to the film.

If you can track down the oral history article, it's a fascinating read. Everything from Julia's motives to Van Damme's insane antics and affair with Kylie Minogue. The movie is a great Saturday afternoon matinee watch and a prime case of winking to the audience.

I've gotta check it out. The clips I saw on Youtube were pretty funny. And Julia gave some great villain lines:

"For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday."

I'll start a new thread momentarily. Just trying to decide what movie I should use. I've got it down to three or four ideas.

MAN! I missed that one and this is one of my all time favorite. I rate it 8/10 and saw it a bunch of times.

Ah. The taste of Victory after a long day.

Haha yep.
