Is "fast paced environment" ever a good thing in a job description?

I'm not talking minimum wage jobs but for more professional educated jobs. To me, it means it's a rushed/cut-throat environment and you will likely have to work extra hours without extra pay. I tend to avoid workplaces with this in a job description.

Also, "self-motivated" i.e. "you are on your own and we will not train you because we don't know what to do here."

as opposed to what?"Great salary. Little to no challenging work. Slow and easy."

I always found what you describe to be an opportunity to perform.

I agree with you. I was in management and self motivated meant I didn't have to babysit the people who reported to me or have someone baby sit me.

I'll take fast paced any day over boring. Guess it just depends on the individual and the job what expectations are on both sides.

challenging environments sift out many, but if you're one of those left standing, you're in better shape than someone who went for a rocking chair job from the start. you get paid if you perform. organizations depend on those people and they have no problem paying them. only mediocrity is easy to find and meaningless to lose.

As long as it really doesn’t mean chaotic.

Most of the time FPE just means your are expected to do the work of several people for the compensation of one. So it would be a red flag for me. Just like ads that say must provide transportation or blue jeans jobs. Sometimes the best jobs in terms of an ad say the least. Or say the opposite of the above. Example : Ford light truck dealer looking for experienced sales person but willing to train the right individual. Must dress business casual. Men must wear short hair and be conventionally shaven. Women must wear dresses below the knee. Vehicle provided.
