Romantic comedies

Hey guys I’d just like to ask you, what do you think of this genre. Did you like it ?

I do like it very much, it’s a genre I mostly go to when I just want to be entertained and have a good time.
I do love my musicals and some inspirational movies to feel happy but when I want to get into a really good mood Rom coms are mostly my thing I don’t mind so much if it’s old or new but I always enjoy a good romantic comedy.

Watching Only You made realize how much I miss this sub genre.

The 2000s killed that genre by making films in that sub genre just for the sake of it without really caring to do something really enjoyable. But when it was an in vogue thing it gave us great moments.

On its last days the sub genre was ruined beyond repair but when it was good it made me very happy.

Anyway anyone has good recommendations?

I'm actually not a fan of the genre at all, but a few of them are among my favourite movies.

I doubt you like Bollywood movies or Disney cartoons, so I'll go with The Shop Around the Corner, Pillow Talk or It Happened One Night, which are cute little classics.

Sure, but as with all genres there are good ones that transcend genre (otherwise known as a good or great movie), and those that are mundane or flat-out bad.

I hadn't noticed they're a thing of the past, but now that you mention it, I can't think of a new or even newish romantic comedy. For a while they were cranking them out left, right, and centre, and a lot of them were so cliched it was awful. If I never see a montage of the happy couple, newly in love, doing all sorts of cute and quirky things, I'll be good.

I saw Only You and thought it was entertaining and cute.

One of the very best and most classic, which I'm certain you've seen, is Sleepless in Seattle, with When Harry Met Sally in the #2 spot.

Say Anything is probably my favourite for John Cusack's performance and a very witty script.
Sliding Doors was good
Bringing Up Baby
Bridget Jones
Roman Holiday
500 Days of Summer
About Time
Singles (another Cameron Crowe movie, like Say Anything, but not quite as good)
The Truth About Cats and Dogs
Strictly Ballroom (another person favourite, I've seen it 10+ times)
Moonstruck (another classic you've no doubt already seen)
Switch (1991, with Ellen Barkin and Jimmy Smits, another personal favourite)
