Do Americans ever say “French fries” anymore? Or just fries?

Like why do you have to say French?

I remember people were “boycotting” the term after France refused to join the “war on terror” aka illegal invasion of Iraq. Maybe people didn’t boycott, it was just a lightbulb moment, “why do we say French?”

I use both.
I’ve not, nor will I ever, call them Freedom Fries.

I almost never order them or have any reason to say it. If I were to order them, I'd just say fries because the context is already clear.

But if I'm telling someone, for instance, the only fried food I like is French fries, the French gets added. It's seem a bit weird to me to leave it off in an instance like that.

I call them Bourgeoisie French Fries.
